Weight Gain in the Beginning?
I am into my third week with a trainer and have gained weight. I am not over eating, in fact very much the opposite. I am feeling bulky and the weight gain makes me want to quit.
Aaron's Answer…
If you're doing strength training with the trainer, then the weight gained would be muscle. And if you're doing cardio, you should be losing weight - assuming the trainer's putting you through your paces.
Either way, if you're trying to drop fat by cutting back on the calories and working out you should be losing weight. Even if you're weight training, you gain muscle pretty slowly - I'd be really surprised if you could put on 4 - 5 pounds of muscle a week.
So, here's what you should do…
(1) Talk this over with your trainer. He or she needs to be able to deliver the results you want. If they can't, find someone else.
(2) Make sure you're eating less calories than you
need to maintain your body weight. You might be eating less than usual, but still more than you should be.
(3) This is only 3 weeks in. If you keep working out and learning more about exercise,
watching your diet (both the kinds of foods and their amounts), and do some strength training (along with intense cardio) you
will start seeing results.
Be patient and persevere.
