July 05, 2010
Hi,

Happy July 4th!

There's tons of new content on the site, and I've included songs to get you pumped and ready to train hard & lift heavy. I leave you to go on with your training with a few words from one of my heroes, Winston Churchill. He may not have had much physical strength, but his psychological and spiritual strength are still inspiring.

"We have not journeyed across the centuries, across the oceans, across the mountains, across the prairies, because we are made of sugar candy."

- Churchill

Make that you attitude when you don't think you can finish your workout.

11) Want Great Weight Lifting Music? 7 Songs to Pump You Up!

When I'm working out I enjoy having great music that helps transmute my blood into fire. Focus and fully committing your spirit to the workout are just as important as the physical details of strength training.

Listen to these songs when you're getting ready to workout, in the car on the way, or if you've got one of those new-fangled iPods you can listen to them while you workout.

It's a slightly eclectic bunch of songs, but they embody drive and character.

1. Battle Without Honor Or Humanity by Tomoyasu Hotei

Battle Without Honor Or Humanity comes from Quentin Tarantino's awesome movie Kill Bill Vol. 1. There's something about the fight scenes with ladies swinging katana and using powerful martial techniques that's jut amazing. The link above has the song on Youtube with a windmill in the background, for reasons I can't explain.

2. Rocky's Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

Rocky. This is classic. At my college they play this in the library during finals week each hour, on the hour. Enough said.

3. You're The Best Around from The Karate Kid (original)

And from the 80s we have the final fighting music from The Karate Kid. It's just like the music says, "You're the best around!"

4. Heaven Help Us (Europa Instrumental) by Globus Music

This is just instrumental, but has an excellent beat and suitably epic energy!

5. Picturing the Past by Sonata Arctica

A great beat, and awesome song. It's about continuing to fight till the end of time. Sometimes it seems that the entire universe unifies itself against you, and those are the times when you have to push your hardest and not lose heart.

6. Wizards in Winter by The Trans-Siberian Orchestra

OK, this has a Christmas feel to it. Not perfectly appropriate in July, but I don't care. It's got power and beat, and instrumental depth.

7. I'll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan

Finally, the ultimate workout song. Mulan learning what it means to be a man, and painfully slogging her way there.
